Mums, Coffee, Cakes and Maths

Joke: A kind mother was helping her son with his Maths homework. A week later he brought his exercise book home. "I'm sorry Mum" he sighed, "but you got nought out of ten"

maths tutor daytime

Do you worry about helping your child with their Maths homework?

Then worry no more!

We also run small informal Maths courses "Mums, Coffee, Cakes and Maths" during the school day from my home in Benfleet, Essex for parents/carers who want to be able to help their children with their Maths homework but find the whole subject too intimidating.

Maths is taught so differently to how we used to learn it, with number bonds, bridging through 10 partitioning, chunking etc. Almost two-thirds of parents in a survey by "Opinion Matters"said they were not comfortable with some of the new mathematical methods now being taught in schools.

What is this all about? and why is it being taught so differently?
maths tuition lessons

In small groups of up to 6 people, we chat through how Maths is  taught today and help you to help your child. You can even bring your child's  homework with you. The price is £20 per person per session for groups of up to 7 people (£25 per session for groups of a minimum of 4) and  are usually run on a Tuesday 10am -2.30pm
but these can be flexible so please contact me with your choice of dates.

These sessions have proved very popular for groups of mums whose children attend the same school and who prefer to come along with people they know. You are welcome to get your group's diaries together and then let me know the choice of dates/times that are most convenient for you all.

Ante-natal friends whose children are now at school also find this a useful and enjoyable one off alternative to their weekly coffee mornings.
If you would like more information then please either call me

Anna, Rayleigh

"A big thank you to Sue Comber, it was great to be shown how my little monkeys, are now taught Maths, a really informative, basic introduction for mums with infants or juniors. It was really worth it. It's great to finally grasp the methods that the kids are learning and to also see how that will go forwards up to year 6 and beyond."

Gillian, Rayleigh

"Thank you, I now understand the building blocks to help my child. It was good to finally go through how my children are being taught, in a relaxed environment. I learned so much, highly recommended. I am now looking forward to helping my son with his Maths homework"
